Trucking Around the World
Many truck drivers choose the profession because of their adventurous spirit. Long-haul truckers get to see so much more than a lot of people in other professions. As you grow in your trucking career, you may be curious about what trucking looks like in other parts of the world. You may be surprised to know that trucking actually looks quite different in some other parts of the world!
Japan
Japanese trucks are quite different from what we’re used to in the US. Truckers in Japan display their personal style by creating what are known as Dekotara trucks. Dekotara trucks are decked out with all kinds of colorful lights, paintings, and anything else that shows off the driver’s style. Dekotara trucks provide their drivers with a creative outlet, which helps relieve stress!
Iceland
Pretty much anyone with internet access knows that Iceland is a breathtakingly beautiful country. Icelandic truckers are treated to some of the most picturesque views in the world daily. However, the beauty comes with a bit of a trade-off. Icelandic weather can become pretty extreme, and some of the roads are one-way so truckers must exercise extreme caution and plan their routes wisely.
Australia
In Australia, truckers are called “truckies”, and the profession is very common. Because a lot of the cities in Australia are quite far from one another, truckies can travel some very long distances on their hauls. One major difference between the Aussie trucks and our American ones is that they often carry multiple trailers at a time: three or four is common, and you may see up to six trailers on a single truck!
