Healthy Snacks You Can Eat on the Road
Truckers sometimes spend days out on the road. When you’ve been out driving for two days and you’re on a deadline, it’s easy to just grab a quick burger at the next truck stop. Unfortunately, that delicious, greasy concoction really isn’t good for you. Whenever possible, it’s best to make as many healthy snacks and meals as you can. Here are some things you can munch on while still keeping your health, and your deadlines, on track!
Vegetables
Remember when you were growing up and Mom would always hound you to eat your vegetables? She was really on to something there! There really isn’t much that’s better for you than good old fresh vegetables. Broccoli, carrot sticks, zucchini, celery, or cucumbers with a small amount of some kind of nut butter (peanut, almond, hazelnut, etc.) is a great, nutrient-rich snack. Just be careful that the butter you choose isn’t packed with sugar or other chemicals. The more natural, the better!
Hummus
If you prefer a more savory flavor, you can have some of those veggie sticks with some hummus. You can easily grab a container at almost any grocery store, some even have pre-portioned snack packs. If you’re feeling adventurous, hummus is also simple to make yourself! You can also use hummus in lieu of mayonnaise or mustard on a sandwich if you want to change up the flavor and add some protein and fiber.
DIY Trail Mix
We’ve all had store-bought trail mix at some point that had something in it that we just didn’t like, or the flavor was too sweet or too salty. Fortunately, it is much easier and can be much healthier to just make it yourself. By making your own trail mix, you decide what goes in so you know that you will like it all. You can add your desired amount of seasonings. Once you’re done mixing it up, separate it into bags or containers for easy grab and go snacks.
