Important Truck Stop Etiquette
As a truck driver, you will surely encounter your fair share of truck stops along your many journeys. While you aren’t exactly expected to behave like high-society or dignitaries while at a truck stop, a certain level of decorum and professionalism is expected. Basically, just do whatever you would want a fellow truck driver to do. Follow these tips as some general guidelines.
Don’t Park Your Truck at a Fuel Pump While You Go Inside for a Meal or Shower
Instead, just re-fuel and then move your truck to an actual parking spot. You will probably be tired, hungry, and in desperate need of a shower. Waiting those precious extra minutes may seem like an eternity, but it is the polite thing to do. After all, would you want to be waiting even longer if another trucker decided to take up a spot at the re-fueling station?
Make Sure You Look Presentable
Some trucking companies have uniforms, some just have clothing guidelines. Regardless of what your company’s regulations are, you should always look presentable. While you may be at that truck stop to shower or sleep or take care of other personal hygiene needs, you are still working. The other truckers there are your co-workers. Remember that and do try to be as polite and professional as possible.
Help Out Your Fellow Drivers
Things happen. Another truck may have a light out somewhere, or a fellow driver may be struggling to maneuver into a parking spot. Whatever happens, lend a hand wherever you can. Being a truck driver is not easy. It is hard work that often keeps drivers away from their families for days at a time. When drivers stick together and help each other out, trucking gets just a little bit easier.
