Things that Can Help Alone Time Feel Less Lonely
Trucking isn’t just an occupation, it’s a lifestyle. It can be exciting and fulfilling, but it’s not for everyone. When you’re on the road, you spend long periods of time alone. A lot of truckers really enjoy that. For some, all the time on the road can get a bit lonely. Here are some tips for easing the loneliness.
Sound
The cab of a truck can be a noisy place, but if you’re feeling lonely turning on the radio can help. An audiobook can transport you to somewhere else, a podcast can educate and amuse you, and some music can lift your mood. By visiting your local library, you can find hundreds of audiobooks to borrow. Most libraries even have smartphone apps you can use to download and listen to the books and then you don’t even have to worry about returning them on time!
Appreciate the Scenery
We all know the song “America the Beautiful”. Well, that song was written for a reason: the United States of America really is a beautiful country. As a truck driver, you have the privilege of seeing a lot more of our country than most. So, as you’re traveling, take a minute to just appreciate your surroundings. Even if you can only stop for a couple of minutes, some deep breaths of fresh air can do a lot for you!
Write it Down
You’re traveling a lot and seeing all of these places and meeting all different kinds of people, so if you’re feeling lonely you can document your adventures through social media profiles or even a blog! Modern technology keeps people connected to each other today more than ever before, so use that to your advantage! Even if you don’t want to get social with it, you can create a journal chronicling all your adventures just for you, or you and your close friends and family.
