Top Tips to Increase the Life of your Truck

Truck Maintenance

Just like everything else, if you maintain your truck it will serve you well.

Just like everything else, if you maintain your truck it will serve you well.  Here are some things you can do to keep your truck running well for years to come.

Remember Those Oil Changes

You should change your oil regularly, based on the manufacturer’s recommended interval.  For older models, be sure to change the oil filter every time you change the oil. Be sure to do your research to find the right oil for your truck.

Change Those Fuel Filters

Remember that fuel filters need to be changed regularly as well.  Proper fuel flow and pressure is critical for engine performance and efficiency.  You should always change fuel filters based on the manufacturer’s recommended interval.

Rotate Tires Regularly

Keeping your tires rotated regularly will seriously increase how long they last.  Tire rotation ensures more even wearing. You should have your tires rotated as part of your regular oil changes.  Not only does rotating tires help your tires last longer, it will give your truck a smoother ride and put far less stress on your suspension.

Keep Tires Balanced

A tire is balanced when the weight of the tire is equally distributed around the axle. You should have your tires balanced when you’re having them rotated.  This will also help even out wear patterns.  You should also have tires re-balanced if you’re getting a tire replaced or patched.

Maintain the Alignment

If you’re driving down the road and find that your truck is pulling off to one side, it might be time for an alignment. If your wheels are out of alignment, you’ll cause higher wear and tear on your tires, generally get worse gas mileage, and experience poor handling on the road.

Keep Fluids at the Proper Levels

Keep an eye on the levels of your essential fluids. Make sure your car’s engine has cooled first, to make sure your readings will be accurate. Check your oil; if it’s dirty or smells like gasoline, it’s time for a change. Next, check your engine coolant.  Refill as necessary with the coolant specified by your truck’s owner’s manual. Lastly, check your windshield washer fluid.  You may not think it’s essential, but it’s not something you want to run out of.

Change Air Filters Regularly

There’s a lot of dust, debris, and chemical contaminants that gets kicked up while you’re on the road.  Your engine has an air filter to keep that out.  Make sure you change it regularly to prevent clogging and give your engine a bit of fresh air.

Regular Check-Ups

Just like humans, trucks need regular check-ups. A trained technician will be able to spot any issues in the early stages and take care of them before they become big problems.
