Fun Truck Driving Facts You Didn’t Expect

Bad-Habits

Truck drivers can be a mysterious bunch, because their lifestyle isn’t often publicized. It’s common for misconceptions to arise, and it’s also important to conquer these misconceptions with facts.

Ever wonder about the mysterious truck drivers you see on the highway?  Truck drivers can be a mysterious bunch, because their lifestyle isn’t often publicized.  It’s common for misconceptions to arise, and it’s also important to conquer these misconceptions with facts.  Because if we don’t it’s possible that drivers will make decisions based on what they believe, false or not.  So, here are some truck driving facts you probably didn’t know!

Fact #1: Legal Drive Time is 11 Hours a Day

Afterwards, truckers must rest for at least 10 hours.  They can work up to 70 hours in an 8 day period, but are required to take those 10 hours rest whenever they drive for so long.  This is to promote awareness on the road, which in turn keeps drivers and truckers safe.  It also helps to keep everyone on track with their arrival times.

Fact #2: Fog Lights Are a Problem

Don’t ever drive with your lights on in the fog when you know you’ll be driving around trucks.  Drivers are directly in the line of sight for headlights, and so fog lights can essentially blind them and become very distracting.  Because a lot of fog happens when it’s dark out, this distraction only increases with potential drowsiness.

Fact #3: You Must be 21

You can’t simply use truck driving as a job to fall back on–truck driving requires serious training and an entirely different license.  To get your CDL, you must be 21 years old if you plan to drive cross-country.  But, in-state, you only have to be 18.  Most companies probably won’t hire you until you’re 23-25 and have a little more life and driving experience.
